I was interested in investigating the reason so many of us have an infatuation with looking at other people’s lives and why we enjoy watching people film themselves doing everyday tasks such as making their beds, cooking, driving to the grocery store, etc.
I made a website that allows the user to see elements of each hour of my day in three formats -
- Through the lens of a NYC Traffic Camera
- Through the text messages that I sent
- The emails that I received
These three file types were the perfect combination of personal, and intimate, but also vague and mysterious.
I started by just going about a very typical day, I didn’t do anything that wouldn’t normally happen to me.
I used the website - https://trafficcamphotobooth.com/# to make it easier to see which cameras were close to me so I could plan out when to take the screenshots. I found it quite difficult to orient myself correctly on the street, but seeing myself on the screen was so fun.
